"Coming Home" The Debut of a New Work by Kevin Toolis

Presented by Irish American Archives Society at Online/Virtual Space

Irish American Archives Society of Northeast Ohio has commissioned acclaimed filmmaker, poet, journalist, TED speaker, and performer Kevin Toolis to create “Coming Home”—a multi-media reflection on Ireland’s “long bleeding into exile,” filmed in an abandoned house in Ireland and incorporating spoken poetry, keening, and music. Toolis will be debuting the piece at this event. A live post-performance conversation with Toolis will follow.

Kevin Toolis is a BAFTA winning writer, film maker and bardic poet who has reported on wars, famines and plagues for The New York Times and The Guardian. Kevin lives in his family’s village in Dookinella, on the ocean’s edge, in Achill Island, County Mayo where his ancestors have lived for the last 250 years. He grew up in Scotland. He is the author of My Father’s Wake: How the Irish Teach Us to Live, Love and Die and Nine Rules to Conquer Death. *
