Western Reserve Land Conservancy will provide Tree Steward Trainings virtually in 2021 to teach interested individuals how to plant, care for and maintain trees in support of the Cleveland Tree Coalition’s collective reforestation efforts.
Western Reserve Land Conservancy’s Sherwick Tree Steward Training Program is an educational program teaching participants about tree biology, planting, pruning, and community engagement to promote good stewardship of the urban forest. In 2021, the program will occur virtually, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and need for social distancing, in advance of the spring tree planting season.
Training sessions include the following:
In person Pruning Training: Saturday, March 6
This program will include video components, webinar-style presentations and breakout discussions, and question and answer periods. Currently, we are planning for the training program to culminate in an outdoor tree pruning/planting workshop with precautions in place. Tree stewards will also be invited to future advanced training workshops, community volunteer events and celebrations, and more.
Creating public awareness and mobilizing community action around the need for trees is critical to accomplishing the Cleveland Tree Plan’s goal of restoring the city’s canopy to 30% by 2040.
Free admission. Advance registration required.
