Discover E: Taxonomy 101: From Discovery to Species Description

Presented by Cleveland Museum of Natural History at Online/Virtual Space

Are you curious about what it takes to discover and describe a species? Dr. Nicole Gunter will cover the basics of taxonomy, the importance of museum collections to documenting the world’s biodiversity, and how you, too, can discover a new species. Learn about how the taxonomic process has changed over time, what a species is, rules for nomenclature, type specimens, and more. Get creative and propose names for undescribed species in the Museum’s Invertebrate Zoology collection or come prepared with questions for the live Q & A.
