Ascent measures 16’ x 28’ x 16’, built from over 60 sheets of CNC-cut sanded birch plywood, 10lbs of GRK hardware, and Simpson Strong tie plates across the 2×6 and 2×4 lumber frame.

The piece consists of repeating floral patterns representing nature, warmth and life. As you ascend visually through the installation the floral patterns transition to Geometric patterns representative of the complexity of acquiring experience and knowledge in life. Ultimately, it all leads to a spherical point singularity at the dome, like a black hole or the big bang, representing destruction or creation.

People have been gathering at Ascent since it finished construction earlier this month, hosting a half-dozen musical performances with 3-4 upcoming events planned. Biro is exploring how free, large scale installation art can be utilized as a space for hosting not only musical performance, but as a temporary pop-up art gallery.
