Join host Henry Louis Gates, Jr. on October 1 at 8 p.m. for the 2020 Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards – an original one-hour television special presented by ideastream and The Cleveland Foundation.
Tune in Thursday, October 1 at 8 p.m. on WVIZ/PBS ideastream, or watch on-demand on ideastream.org, the PBS Video app and WVIZ/PBS Passport beginning October 2.
For 85 years, the awards have recognized literary works that contribute to our understanding of racism and human diversity – writings that open and challenge our minds. Their relevance during this movement for racial equality is as great as ever.
Visit the hometowns of the four 2020 Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards honorees – historian Eric Foner, poet Ilya Kaminsky, scholar Charles King and novelist Namwali Serpell. Each will share readings of their award-winning work and their acceptance speeches.
The special offers a unique opportunity to celebrate this year’s honorees and share significant literary works with the community in an accessible way. The program will also serve to amplify diverse voices and foster dialogue about inclusivity that transcends the digital divide.
