Cleveland Ballet Presents The Magic Flute

Cleveland Ballet Presents The Magic Flute

Presented by Cleveland Ballet at Mimi Ohio Theatre

Cleveland Ballet and founding Artistic Director, Gladisa Guadalupe, will bring to the stage the world premiere ballet, The Magic Flute, accompanied by the sounds of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Guadalupe’s favorite recorded version of Mozart’s masterpiece, The Magic Flute, is the version by Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, considered one of the best orchestra’s in the world. Their clear and crisp orchestration, brought to life by the best musicians and opera singers of the 20th century, perfectly complements Cleveland ballet’s superlative technique and artistry.

Cleveland Ballet’s version of The Magic Flute is based on the trials and tribulations a couple in love go through in order to have a happy ending. After hardships, suffering, and a few romantic complications, their love finds the “happily ever after,” and celebrates the triumph of good over evil.

The outstanding voice of German lyric tenor, Fritz Wunderlich, leads the powerful dance of Lorenzo Pontiaggia as Tamino, the charming prince. Roberta Peters, an American coloratura soprano, moves the enchanting queen, interpreted by Elena Cvetkovich. The German lyric baritone, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, guides the spritely whirl of Covington Pearson’s interpretation of Papageno, the bird catcher.

With these art forms – music, opera, and ballet – merged together, audiences will be captivated and transported into a magical world during the performances of The Magic Flute.

Duration: 2 hours with a 20 minute intermission.
