Episode 4: Strike the viol

Arnie Tanimoto gives us a guided tour of solo music for viol from the “Twilight Viol,” Mélisande Corriveau introduces the pardessus de viole, and soprano Sherezade Panthaki beguiles with songs by Henry Purcell.

Episode 5: Latin Baroque

Specialists Nell Snaidas (Soprano) and Laury Guttierez (viola da gamba) share their performances of Latin Baroque and Afro-Baroque music, while violinist Karin Cuellar Rendon explores 19th century Peruvian and Bolivian salon music.

Episode 6: Schubertiade

Picking up on themes from Les Délices’ Bewitched, soprano Hannah De Priest and fortepianist Michael Pecak bring us art songs infused with the supernatural, including Schubert’s famous Die Erlkönig. Additional artists to be announced.

Episode 7: Folk Influences

Violinist Gail Hernandez Rosa explores the connections Baroque & Celtic Folk music on her forthcoming album My Cup of Tea, while David McCormick reflects on recent research focused on Black musicians at Thomas Jefferson’s Virginia’s Monticello.

Episode 8: Unwritten Traditions

Masters of improvisation Robert Mealy, Priscilla Herreid, and Mark Edwards talk about their work and inspiration in reconstructing lost musical traditions from Medieval to Baroque.

Episode 9: Medieval Christmas

Members of Blue Heron (Scott Metcalfe, director) and Trobàr (featuring Elena Mullins and Allison Monroe) bring us “a captivating mix of mysticism and merriment” in this episode illuminating Medieval music for Advent and Christmas.
