Aviva

Presented by Cleveland Institute of Art and The Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque at Online/Virtual Space

United States, France | 2020 | Boaz Yakin

Christopher Nolan’s Tenet is not the only film this summer whose title is a palindrome. Aviva is a bold and exciting new dance movie in which four young dancers (two men and two women) embody the masculine and feminine sides of a Parisian woman and an American man in a relationship in New York City. Employing movement to express the inevitable ups and downs of the couple’s romantic and sexual lives, the work becomes a sensuous, entrancing, gender-fluid look at self, flesh, love, and identity. From the director of Fresh and Remember the Titans. “Nothing about the film is predictable or ordinary. In terms of narrative and choreography, its leaps and transitions are often mind-bending, breaking down assumptions and putting things back together in ways that are illuminating and expansive.” –The Hollywood Reporter. Adults only! Cleveland premiere. 116 min.
