Shibori is the Japanese word for a variety of resist dyeing techniques that includes folding, clamping, binding, pole wrapping, and stitching. This two-day class will begin with an explanation of the various techniques present in Shibori. You will then experiment using each technique with a variety of different papers and natural dyes including indigo, walnut, pomegranate, persimmon, and sumi ink. By the end of the weekend you will have several pieces to take home and a sample book of each technique.
About the instructor:
Pam McKee is a Cleveland printmaker and papermaker. Her work combines shibori resist dyeing techniques, printmaking, and hand stitching on handmade paper.
