Learn how to combine the golden-ratio, black letter calligraphy, and illumination to create a Medieval versal, and light up your page with genuine gold leaf.
Canceled due to COVID-19.
There are three key elements of Medieval manuscripts: golden-ratio-based page design, blackletter calligraphy, and illumination. Combined, these elements create a beautiful written piece that truly lights up the page. After a historical overview, you will learn how to plan a folio using Tschichold’s Golden Canon, hand-draw versals (capital letters) on parchment, gild versals with genuine gold leaf, and paint versals using traditional Medieval colors. By the end of the day, you will complete two to three versals.
