Matilda is a monumental story about a little girl. She finds the love and support she seeks even when her family does not recognize her abilities or value. Roald Dahl is a master at crafting stories with outrageous characters that too often reveal the harder edges of childhood. Matilda and her classmates find their voices, rise above being labeled “Revolting Children” and ponder the ways they choose to grow up. With a fantastic opportunity to showcase a youth-driven musical, Heights Youth Theater is thrilled to help bring Matilda to vivid life beyond an HD screen. Themes of literacy, self-advocacy, the rights of children, the creation of family and what to do when you just want to yell, “That’s not right!” are explored. “Just because you’re little doesn’t mean a lot; you mustn’t let a little thing like little stop you,” reverberates throughout the show and gives a powerfully raw validation to just how important children are
