If you are interested in the unique geology of Cleveland’s “Heights” or in the history of human settlement on Cleveland’s east side then this hike of the Doan Brook gorge is not to be missed!
Join Dr. Roy Larick of Bluestone Heights in a guided hike of the Doan Brook gorge that will highlight the geology and human history of the area. Hikers will learn about the transformation of the gulch and gulf landscapes under Shaker quarrying and milling, Rockefeller ownership, and suburban development. Hikers will also visit new green infrastructure sites helping to restore stormwater infiltration and local ecology.

Hikers will meet at the main entrance to the Fairhill Partners building (12200 Fairhill Road, Cleveland, OH 44120) at 2 PM and depart from there to the gorge. The hike will last approximately 2 hours and will feature undeveloped trails and some difficult terrain. Be sure to wear sturdy footwear!
