Annually The Sculpture Center shows the work of 4-6 regional artists within the first ten years of their career and each are awarded a solo show.
Emily Duke, “Careless Water”
A native of Detroit, Michigan, and a graduate of The New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, artist Emily Duke utilizes materials and processes that range from paper decoupage and photography, to plaster mold making and throwing on the potters wheel. Her current work addresses themes of geometric abstraction, interior object landscapes and materiality.
Chelsea A! Flowers, “Laughing Out Loudly”
Based in Detroit, Michigan, and a graduate of Cranbrook Academy of Art, artist Chelsea A! Flowers explores subversion to popular culture and how “otherness” is created through social and cultural critique of her environment. She explores these ideas through comedic troupes, physical play, nostalgic memorabilia, and participatory performance.
