Apollon Musagète Quartet, an established feature of the European musical scene, performs a program of Haydn, Penderecki, and Dvořák.
The Apollon Musagète Quartet is one of the most dynamic, charismatic and creative ensembles on the international music scene. Along with the traditional string quartet repertoire, the Quartet has had a number of new works dedicated to it, often on the theme of their spiritual mentor, Apollo.
The quartet will be making its debut on our series with a program of:
Haydn: String Quartet in D major, Op. 64, No. 5, “Lark”
Penderecki: String Quartet No. 3, “Leaves from an unwritten diary” (2008)
Dvořák: String Quartet in A-flat major, Op. 105
A pre-concert lecture by Nicholas Stevens takes place at 6:30 p.m. A post-concert reception for the audience with a meet-and-greet of the artists immediately follows the concert.
Winner of first prize and several other awards at the International Music Competition of the ARD in 2008, Apollon Musagète Quartet has captivated public and press alike. The quartet was nominated ECHO Rising Stars 2010, followed by highly successful performances at prestigious European venues. It was also named BBC New Generation Artist in 2012, leading to extensive touring in the UK and a number of recordings for the BBC. In 2014 the musicians received the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award.
