Celebrating Community through Music

Presented by Suburban Symphony Orchestra at First Baptist Church of Greater Cleveland

Music Director Domenico Boyagian will lead more than 100 community members in this final concert of the season. SSO and the choirs of First Baptist Church and Fairmount Presbyterian bring their talents and love for music together in this community project. Inside the beautiful First Baptist Church, you will hear Faure’s Dolly Suite, Borodin’s In the steppes of Central Asia and Faure’s glorious Requiem performed with symphony, chorus and vocal soloists.

Pre-concert lecturer David J. Rothenberg teaches music history and serves as Chair of the Department of Music at Case Western Reserve University. He is a frequent pre-concert lecturer in the Cleveland area.

Learn more about SUBURBAN SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

Suburban Symphony Orchestra occupies a unique position in the rich musical community in Northeast Ohio. In a city alive with music making, Suburban bridges the gap between the area’s renowned professional organizations and its many volunteer ensembles. The orchestra, based at Beachwood High School, has built a solid community following over the past 65 years, presenting five free concerts throughout the season.

A number of the orchestra’s members are music professionals. Other members are well-trained volunteer musicians with chosen vocations in other fields ranging from medicine to education. All are highly skilled instrumentalists who are “amateurs” in the best sense of the word – true lovers of their art.

Maestro Domenico Boyagian was appointed as Music Director of Suburban Symphony Orchestra in 2018, following the long tenures of Robert C. Weiskopf, and Martin Kessler. Mr. Boyagian is the Music Director of Cleveland Opera Theater. In addition to local appearances, he has conducted across the United States. In recognition of his talent, Boyagian was named “one of ten most successful Italians in the U.S.” by the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce in New York City and is a “Most Distinguished Artist” grant recipient from the Community Partnership for Arts and Culture in Cleveland.

Suburban Symphony Orchestra’s community concert is supported in part by the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.
