Quire performs settings of the Lamentations of Jeremiah by the Renaissance English composers Thomas Tallis (c1505-1585) and Robert White (1538-1574).
Quire performs settings of the Lamentations of Jeremiah by the Renaissance English composers Thomas Tallis (c1505-1585) and Robert White (1538-1574), traditionally heard during the Tenebrae services preceding Easter. Their message asks for the restoration of a community that has lost its home. The texts of these Lamentations, offered in the days just after Ash Wednesday – at the beginning of the Lenten season – provide awareness of the trials and tribulations that plague our modern world and of those who immigrated to the Cleveland area over a century ago. We pay homage to the history, faith, and culture of the immigrant parish community in which the concert will take place.
Admission is free. Seating is open, and no tickets or reservations are required. A freewill offering will be taken (suggested donation $25 per person).
