Annual Young Soloists Concert and Beethoven's "Pastoral" Symphony

Presented by Suburban Symphony Orchestra at Beachwood High School

Maude, Katarina and Jamie are the winners of our Young Soloists Concerto Competition, and are talented beyond their years. Share in the experience of hearing these incredible players, accompanied by Suburban Symphony Orchestra.

Each year, talented Northeastern Ohio music students in grades 7-12 (ages 13-18) audition for the opportunity to perform a concerto movement with the Suburban Symphony. For many, it is their first opportunity to perform with a full symphony orchestra. This tradition has been in place since the orchestra began, and is an essential part of the orchestra’s purpose. Many concerto winners, including pianist Orion Weiss and Cleveland Orchestra members Eliesha Nelson and Diane Mather, have gone on to distinguished professional careers.

CONCERT PROGRAM

Jamie Park, Contrabass – Proto’s A Carmen Fantasy

Katarina Davies, Cello – Tchaikovsky’s Variations on a Theme by Rococo

Maude Cloutier, Violin – Ravel’s Tzigane

Then, hear the Suburban Symphony Orchestra play Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony

Suburban Symphony Orchestra occupies a unique position in the rich musical community in Northeast Ohio. In a city alive with music making, Suburban bridges the gap between the area’s renowned professional organizations and its many volunteer ensembles. The orchestra, based at Beachwood High School, has built a solid community following over the past 65 years, presenting five free concerts throughout the season.

A number of the orchestra’s members are music professionals. Other members are well-trained volunteer musicians with chosen vocations in other fields ranging from medicine to education. All are highly skilled instrumentalists who are “amateurs” in the best sense of the word – true lovers of their art.

Maestro Domenico Boyagian was appointed Music Director of Suburban Symphony Orchestra in 2018, following the long tenures of Robert C. Weiskopf and Martin Kessler. Mr. Boyagian is the Music Director of Cleveland Opera Theater. In addition to local appearances, he has conducted across the United States. In recognition of his talent, Boyagian was named “one of ten most successful Italians in the US” by the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce in New York City and is a “Most Distinguished Artist” grant recipient from the Community Partnership for Arts and Culture in Cleveland.
