*Canceled due to COVID-19.

Generative Measures – Creating Content for Artist’s Books workshop:
This workshop is for visual artists who want to explore language and writers who want to expand on visual vocabulary. You will develop original content for artis’s books by utilizing non-traditional approaches, writing prompts, and experimental image generating techniques. To further develop your ideas, you will learn a variety of processes for transferring text and image on to the pages of simple folded book structures including mark making, transfers, rub-on type, stencils, stamping, and pressure printing.

About the instructor:
Ellen Sheffield is a visual artist who explores the relationship between language, materiality and time through the structure of the book. She is interested in mixing genres and how image and text converge to create new ways of reading. She teaches Book Arts at Kenyon College in Gambier, OH, where she collaborates with poets, musicians and writers in her studio, Unit IV Arts. Her work is included in the Bienecke Collection at Yale among other collections and has recently exhibited work at The Center for Book Arts NY, NY.
