A stage mom like no other comes front and center in The Unusual Case of Miss Piña Colada. How ridiculous can a mother be in her obsession for her daughter to be crowned as a beauty queen in the unusual contest of “Miss Piña Colada”?
The Carlos Ferrari comedy produced by LatinUs Theatre Company – and performed entirely in Spanish – and with projected English supertitles, makes its Cleveland debut this September and October
How ridiculous can a mother be in her obsession for her daughter to be crowned as a beauty queen in the unusual contest of \”Miss Piña Colada\”? Audiences will have the opportunity to meet this stage mom in the satire by Carlos Ferrari as he explores with sharpness and sympathy the irrational eagerness that seizes those who dream of achieving fame and social prominence, however superficial it seems.
At the center of \”The Unusual Case of Miss Piña Colada\” is Ofelia. She is a widow, a mother of three teenage children, eager to appear as a social success and among other things, to impress her friend, the frivolous and gossip Esperancita. Ofelia decides one of her daughters must win the title of Miss Piña Colada, at the neglect of her two other children, and mockery of her cynical brother.
