The Cleveland premiere of this stirring true story right from the pages of world history!
It’s a true story, and a stirring one, from the pages of world history: How Mayer Rothschild and his sons break out of the Frankfurt ghetto in late 18th-century Europe and create a nancial dynasty that exists to this day. And it was the last musical with a score by Fiddler on the Roof songwriters Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick. Both musicals are about Jewish families facing oppression, but as Harnick, now 95, tells us, “In Fiddler, Tevye’s people were resigned to their poverty; the Rothschilds were determined to conquer theirs.” Several years ago, Harnick and scriptwriter Sherman Yellen revised their 1970 musical and saw it produced in New York and London. This Cleveland premiere will include all of the dialogue and songs performed in concert. Not to be missed! —B.R.
