CCMS presents William Caballero, horn, Rodrigo Ojeda, piano, with Cynthia DeAlmeida, oboe

Presented by Cleveland Chamber Music Society at Forest Hill Church Presbyterian

CCMS concludes its 69th season on April 30, 2019 with a performance of horn, piano, and oboe music played by principal musicians of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. William Caballero (horn), Rodrigo Ojeda (piano), and Cynthia DeAlmeida (oboe) perform a program that includes Eugène Bozza’s En Forêt considered by many to be the most difficult piece ever written for the horn with its bounding intervals, rapid-fire lip trills, sonorous glissandos, and intricate hand-stopping techniques, all over four octaves from high C to pedal C.

Manfred Honeck, the PSO’s music director, says of Caballero, “This man is able to create music with his horn that I never heard before.” The Guardian calls Mr. Caballero, “the best in the business,” The Independent says Caballero is “a principal horn whose pianissimo is simply miraculous,” and Gramophone magazine write, “Pittsburgh’s first horn is as spectacular as any.”

Pianist Rodrigo Ojeda has performed master classes with such notable pianists as Kasimierz Giesrod ( former rector of the Frederic Chopin Academy in Warsaw ), Marek Joblonsky, Georgy Sandor, Marta Gulyas, and Earl Wild.  His solo recitals include performances throughout Venezuela, Ecuador and most recently in the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina.  He has performed concerti from an expansive repertoire of Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Gershwin, Grieg, Schumann, Mozart, Lizt, Cesar Frank and Prokofiev.

Gramophone Magazine calls Ms. DeAlmeida “a poetic artist [who is] hands down one of the best players in the world. Simply one of the finest exponents of the [oboe] anywhere.”
