The unparalleled Takács Quartet, with its newest member, second violinist Harumi Rhodes, performs a program of Haydn, Shostakovich, and Grieg for the Cleveland Chamber Music Society on April 9 at Plymouth Church, UCC in Shaker Heights.
The Takács Quartet is one of the most beloved string quartets of the current era. A Cleveland favorite, the Takács have appeared on CCMS’ series regularly for more than two decades. Their warm and lush European sound is derived from the group’s Hungarian roots. Formed in Budapest in 1975, the Takács has become a Cleveland favorite for its unique blend of drama, warmth, humor, and precision, combining four distinct and compelling musical personalities to bring fresh insights to the string quartet repertoire. New second violinist Harumi Rhodes has quartet music in her genes: she is the daughter of Samuel Rhodes, former violist of the Juilliard String Quartet.
The ensemble next appears in Cleveland for the Cleveland Chamber Music Society on Tuesday evening, April 9, 2019 at 7:30PM.
