Join us for a special conversation between Frontini and Lauf that explores his recent work and their collaboration, revealing the value of connectivity between artists and curators.
Never underestimate the power of first impressions. During her Cleveland studio visits as our 2016 Visiting Curator, Cornelia Lauf, who also curated moCa’s exhibition Wall to Wall: Carpets by Artists, met and reviewed the new work of artist Thomas Frontini (1967, Ontario, Canada; lives and works in Cleveland). This first meeting led to further conversations over several years, resulting in the artist’s new monograph. Published by MER and distributed by Exhibitions International, the book is edited by Lauf with original essays by Christian Egger, Chris Kraus, David Pagel (another former Visiting Curator), and Giorgio Verzotti. About Frontini’s work, Pagel writes, “[his] crystalline pictures of imagined settings and fanciful situations are shimmering instances in which the self simultaneously dissolves and expands: finding itself outside of itself, it is transformed into something other than what it just was.”
