Each spring, Ingenuity Cleveland unites and showcases the region’s artists, makers, and creatives with its fundraiser Bals…be a part of the dream this year!
The theme for Ingenuity’s 2019 fundraiser is the Dreamer’s Bal — a surreal creation of a living daydream — which will take place on Saturday, May 4 from 8:00pm until 1:00am (May 5) at IngenuityLabs, Ingenuity’s headquarters in the Hamilton Collaborative at 5401 Hamilton Avenue, Cleveland.
Attendees of this year’s Bal will step into an ethereal landscape of our subconscious hopes and aspirations that sit latent or ignored, brought to fruition by larger-than-life art installations, immersive music and dance performances, and engaging artistic activities.
Ingenuity’s Bal celebrations make reference to the historic masked Bals of the Kokoon Club, whose name was self-described with this image: “As the lowly cocoon was the forerunner of the beautiful butterfly, so might they hope that from this small beginning something of beauty should develop and emerge.”
It is with this same goal that Ingenuity Cleveland works today, igniting the spark of creativity among artists, entrepreneurs and innovators of all types, through joy and collaboration, in service to civic progress. The arts have a rich history in Cleveland, with the Kokoon Club being the counter-elitist and avant-garde movement dominating the area from 1911-1946.
The Bal is a celebration of the dreams that have led us to this space and time. Once a bustling city of innovative manufacturing, Cleveland continues its uphill battle to rebrand into a new artistic identity. The Made-in-Cleveland stamp has found its way from steel furnaces or car parts to year-round public art or theatrical displays.

We make every attempt to ensure that our event is accessible to all audience members. Event attendees should be aware that artistic events held in our former industrial space can include some areas of uneven flooring, rough surfaces and low lighting. We recommend all patrons wear sturdy shoes, and dress with the understanding that the IngenuityLabs warehouse can get quite warm or cool, depending on the weather.
We provide ADA parking off the 53rd Street entrance to our event – Attendees can simply notify our greeters at our 5401 Hamilton entrance to be shown alternate accommodation, or reach out in advance to discuss any concerns.
