The Other Side of the Story: Untold Perspectives on Familiar Tales

The Other Side of the Story: Untold Perspectives on Familiar Tales

Presented by Burning River Baroque at St. Alban Episcopal Church

Beginning Tuesday, March 19, Burning River Baroque will continue their 2018-2019 season with “The Other Side of The Story: Untold Perspectives on Familiar Tales,” a program that is both thought-provoking and critical in the ways that it relates to contemporary society. The #MeToo Movement as well as issues of toxic masculinity and human trafficking have all been placed at the forefront of conversations involving the current political climate, relations on college campuses, and the ways corporations advertise products. This program ties common ideas and stories from ancient passages and mythical tales together with a broad range of musical compositions. Co-director Malina Rauschenfels says, “We frequently get to experience history through the victor’s eyes. We’re interested in hearing the other side of the story – from those populations that are often marginalized.”

You can attend a performance of “The Other Side of The Story: Untold Perspectives on Familiar Tales” from Tuesday, March 19 through Saturday, March 23 at various venues in the Cleveland area. Performances will occur at a house concert in Fairlawn, at Fresh Perspectives in downtown Cleveland (2460 Lakeside Ave), St. Alban Episcopal Church in Cleveland Heights (2555 Cleveland Heights Blvd), St. John’s Episcopal Church in Youngstown (323 Wick Ave), and Lakewood Congressional Church in Lakewood (1375 West Clifton Blvd). All venues, performance times, and dates are provided on Burning River Baroque’s website here: https://www.burning-river-baroque.org/current-programs. “For this writer, this concert confirmed that any future Burning River Baroque event is a must-attend — not only for the fantastic music, but the important thoughts the ensemble inspires,” (David Kulma, Cleveland Classical).
