In honor of Joan Tower’s highly influential music and career, CYO will perform a concert of her works. Tower is a Pulitzer Prize winning composer, and long-time supporter of music education.
Legendary composer Joan Tower recently celebrated her 80th birthday, and she has influenced several generations of female composers. To celebrate Tower’s contributions to the orchestral repertoire, CYO will perform 4 of her key works in March: Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman #6; In Memory; Stroke; and Tambor. Female composers remain underrepresented on orchestral stages, and CYO is working to do our part to change that paradigm.
CYO will welcome Joan Tower to Cleveland several days prior to the concert, and she will spend significant rehearsal time with the students. It is a unique opportunity for young musicians to work directly with a living composer.
