Wide Horizons

Presented by CityMusic Cleveland at Various

CityMusic Music Director Avner Dorman is gifted as both conductor and composer, and he shares those talents in this program featuring the World Premiere of STILL, his third violin concerto, with soloist Sayaka Shoji, the first Japanese and youngest winner of the prestigious Paganini Competition in Genoa, Italy. The concert begins with a Waltz from a film score by Toru Takemitsu (1930-1996), Japanese in birth and sensibility but Western in his compositional techniques and instrumental sonorities, and closes with the Sinfonietta by 20th-century French master Francis Poulenc, which ranges from recollections of Mozart and Haydn to imitations of Parisian cabaret tunes.
