Artist on Art: Nikki Woods on Alexis Rockman

Artist on Art: Nikki Woods on Alexis Rockman

Presented by Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland at Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland

Each month, a local artist will provide an in-gallery, original interpretation of one or more artworks on view in moCa’s exhibitions. Connecting with the works through affinities of material, process, or subject matter, each artist’s talk will broaden and deepen the meaning of the works and exhibitions.

This Artists on Art features Nikki Woods, painter and gallery director of the Reinberger Gallery of the Cleveland Institute of Art. Her talk will focus on unpacking the contemporary atmosphere around painting. Woods’s paintings draw inspiration from a wide breadth of influences including art history, current events, cartoons, midcentury Americana, and the occult. Her most recent solo exhibition Regrets Only was held at Hedge Gallery in fall of 2017. In 2016 her paintings were featured in the B horror film The Charnel House (Siegal Entertainment). Her work can be found in numerous public and private collections, including the Progressive Art Collection and the Cleveland Art Association.
