Frank Rosenwein, Principal Oboe of The Cleveland Orchestra, headlines this concert performing Richard Strauss’ lyrical Oboe Concerto, composed during the hopeful days immediately after the end of World War II.
Rossini L’italiana in Algeri Overture
Strauss Oboe Concerto in D Major
Mozart Symphony No. 39 in E Major K543
CityMusic Cleveland Chamber Orchestra returns for the second concert cycle of its 15th Anniversary Season. The concert features Cleveland Orchestra principal oboist Frank Rosenwein in Richard Strauss’ oboe concerto. Music by Giaochino Rossini and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart frames the program — the sensuous overture to L’italiana in Algerie, and the Symphony No. 39, one of Mozart’s most richly scored creations, described by one commentator as “the most purely joyous utterance in musical literature.”
CityMusic will present five free concerts, each in a different community location around the city. Professional musicians from Northeast Ohio and beyond make up this dynamic and lyrical orchestra that has championed accessibility to performances of the highest quality since its inception in 2004.
