Dinner with a Slice of History

Presented by International Women's Air & Space Museum at Burke Lakefront Airport

Experience an evening with Shaesta Waiz, who is the youngest person to fly solo around the world in a single-engine aircraft. Waiz came to this country as an Afghan refugee and is the first certified civilian female pilot from Afghanistan. Waiz departed from Daytona Beach, Florida on May 13, 2017 and flew over 24,000 nautical miles, making 30 stops in 145 days, visiting 22 countries across five continents and inspiring over 3,000 students through 32 outreach events. She is the founder of the non-profit organization Dreams Soar, Inc., whose mission statement is “to inspire the next generation of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and aviation professionals.” Waiz was selected as the recipient of the 2018 Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum’s Trophy for Current Achievement.
