ELLA ENCHANTED: THE MUSICAL

ELLA ENCHANTED: THE MUSICAL

Presented by Dobama Theatre at Dobama Theatre

Ella is given the “gift” of obedience as an infant by a misguided fairy and cannot disobey any order. The strong-willed Ella goes on a quest to rid herself of this horrible curse. During her mystical adventure she encounters an evil stepmother, hungry ogres, enormous giants, a magical bird, and her best friend. Along the way, she finds her own voice.

Ella Enchanted is a fun and frolicking musical,” says writer Karen Zacarías ultimately, “but it also carries a powerful message about each child’s responsibility to discover his or her own unique voice and use it to make the world a better and more inclusive place. It’s a play that encourages children to resist bullies, to resist oppression, and to find the true magic of common language and common ground.”

Written by Karen Zacarias with music by Deborah Wicks La Puma, Ella Enchanted: The Musical is based on the Newbery Honor Novel by Gail Carson Levine. Dobama’s production features puppets designed by Robin VanLear of Parade the Circle.
