The first African-American player in Major League Baseball history was born in Mount Pleasant, Ohio on October 7, 1856. On Sunday, October 7, 2018 at noon we will celebrate the second annual Moses Fleetwood Walker Day in Ohio with a look back at his life and legacy. Our special guest will be author Kelly Boyer Sagert. Her newest book, “Hidden History of Lorain County”, includes a chapter on Walker who attended Oberlin College and played Major League Baseball for Toledo of the American Association in 1884 and professionally from 1883 to 1891. Walker died in Cleveland on May 11, 1924 and is buried in Steubenville.
