The Doan Brook Watershed Partnership invites you to the 7th Annual Take to the Lake, an afternoon of paddling, hiking, yoga, and music along the banks of Lower Shaker Lake in Shaker Heights, Ohio.
Canoeing on the Shaker Lakes was a popular pastime from the early 1900s through the 1970s after which the lakes were closed to public boating. Our annual Take to the Lake event on the shores of Lower Shaker Lake is a celebration of this historical past-time and an opportunity for new generations of Cuyahoga County residents to experience the lake from a different perspective.
If you have never kayaked or canoed before sign up for an hour-long kayaking or canoeing skills class led by Cleveland Metroparks Youth Outdoors with the price ranging from $10 for adults to $5 for youth (15 years and under). If you are an experienced paddler and want to spend more time on the lake rent a kayak from Breakaway Excursions for $15 per person/per hour with no lessons included. Finally, if you have your own kayak or canoe or paddle board bring them along and join the flotilla!
For land-lovers, the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes will be hosting a geocaching hike and a nature and history hike, Yoga Roots will be offering a yoga class, and there will be a live acoustic performance by the SpYder Stompers and Sugar Pie.
