John Carroll University (JCU) is a private co-educational Jesuit Catholic university in University Heights, Ohio. JCU was founded in 1886 by the Society of Jesuits, renamed John Carroll University in 1923. In 1935, JCU was moved from its original location on the Westside of Cleveland to its present location in University Heights. In September 1968, the University transitioned from an all-male university to a coeducational institution, admitting women to the College of Arts and Sciences for the first time.

Since its inception, John Carroll University has been committed to graduating students of intellect and character in the Jesuit Catholic tradition of educational excellence. John Carroll’s mission is to inspire individuals to excel in learning, leadership, and service throughout Northeast Ohio and throughout the world.
