We are a Eucharistic community committed to living the teachings of Jesus. Founded in the spirit of the Second Vatican Council, we share the responsibility to build the Reign of God. As a parish, we are committed to the following values: WORSHIP: Celebrating the Eucharist is central to our community, with full and active participation on the part of each member. We cherish our sacramental life as well as a variety of prayer forms. JUSTICE: We commit ourselves to serve others and reach out to the poor in response to their needs. Our work for justice extends to advocating with integrity for positive change in society and the Church. VISION: Rooted in our faith tradition, we strive to be innovative, prophetic, and courageous in leadership and service. In our commitment to the spiritual formation of each member, we are open to explore new ways to meet the needs among us in response to the signs of our times. DIGNITY: We reverence and welcome each person as a child of God. Embracing and celebrating the diversity of gifts among us, we call everyone to contribute and be served.

The Cleveland Photo Fest was established in 2019 as an annual event for the benefit of the Greater Clevelanders who support photography as a fine art. Our mission is to strengthen the appreciation of photography as a major force in today’s visually driven culture. Exhibitions, publications, educational and fellowship programming are at the core of our active engagement with the Cleveland community. The Cleveland Photo Fest has enlisted the local gallery and art-based community to share in CPF events. Participants have committed to sponsor or participate in photography related exhibitions in September and/or October of 2019. Community-oriented programming is an essential element of all CPF activities. To promote city-wide involvement, the CPF has partnered with local photographers, photography clubs, photo suppliers, national and professional organizations, educational institutions, public media and private enterprises. The Cleveland Photographic Workshop and Gemini Developers (both a volunteer run 501.C.3 corporation) serves the local and national community of photographers and photography supporters through the programming of photographic exhibitions, educational opportunities and social engagement.

Cleveland Silent Film Festival and Colloquium
    Film/Video/Television;  Nonprofit
A consortium of five area institutions has come together to put on a week-long Cleveland Silent Film Festival and Colloquium: Music That Once Filled the Silence. We kick off with a concert of J.S. Zamecnik’s chamber (and film) music at the historic (1928) Hermit Club performed by Rodney Sauer and members of the Cleveland Orchestra. Four silent classics featuring music by Zamecnik will be shown at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque and Oberlin’s beautifully restored Apollo Theater, three of them accompanied live by the renowned five-member Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra. Mont Alto’s director and chief arranger, Rodney Sauer, is working with students enrolled in a Winter Term class at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music on the art of locating, choosing, arranging, and performing historic silent movie music. He has also been invited to lead a workshop at the Cleveland Institute of Music. On Friday, Sauer will be the featured speaker at a Case Western Reserve University colloquium to which the public is invited.

Free Akron Outdoor Movies was first thought up by a couple of running buddies jogging through Glendale Cemetery. “Wouldn’t it be cool to show a movie here on a big screen, under the stars, free for everyone?” That was back in 2011, and the same group of friends has put on a free, family-friendly movie in Glendale Cemetery since 2012. The response from the community has been tremendous, and we’ve had crowds of hundreds of neighbors on blankets and chairs at every event. We also received immediate support from the City of Akron and other businesses and organizations over the years to offset the costs and keep the movies free, including PNC Bank, Akron Digital Media Center, Glendale Cemetery, West Hill Neighborhood Organization, and Premier Bank. In addition to feature films and concessions, we’ve shown cartoon shorts, hosted open mic audience storytelling, offered activities for children, enjoyed live music, and hosted local food cart vendors. In 2015, we received a generous grant from PNC Bank and were able to purchase the our first screen, projector and audio system, equipment that we had previously rented. We quickly outgrew that first screen, and in 2018, the Knight Foundation generously provided the funds to purchase the 20′ inflatable, rear projection screen screen we use today. With some of the main rental costs no longer an obstacle, we changed our mission to one of being able to host multiple movies each year, not just the annual film we started with. So now we are portable…and able to show PopUp movies under the stars all over the Akron-area! Having our own outdoor movie equipment also gives us the opportunity to help other organizations and non-profits show films at their events. (Don’t worry, we’ll still always show a movie in the cemetery too!) We look forward to making more free, outdoor, family-friendly movies available in many Akron neighborhoods in this and coming years. Contact us if you want to explore holding a PopUp movie at your organization’s event.

As a young teenager, Kurt received a camera from his father, a gesture greatly underestimated at the time.   Growing up in California and Illinois, Kurt found much to photograph from the start. A deep love of nature and its conservation was sparked during his scouting years by his Eagle Scout father, while from his artistic mother he inherited a natural eye for composition. These qualities pervade his work to this day.   In the early 1990s, Kurt began a transition into what for many years now has been a full-time professional photography career, encompassing a wide range of commercial photography as well as creating fine art nature, landscape and abstract photographs.   “My therapy is time spent in nature,” he says, which he shares in the purest form possible, noting that “what I photograph in nature is not subjected to Photoshop manipulation.”   One early expression of his love of nature was the creation of PhotoHealing, an art therapy project in the form of a multimedia slide show that saw wide presentation in healthcare facilities, churches, libraries and other venues. Today’s version of PhotoHealing is a monthly e-mail newsletter featuring Kurt’s selection of the month’s most beautiful and intriguing photos published since 2011.   Since 1980, Kurt has called Cleveland, Ohio home, and has found endless photographic opportunity throughout the state, in every season. He often startles viewers with the beauty he finds in the commonplace: “I see beauty in places and things many pass by unawares.”   Since 2011, Kurt has been able to reach a greatly expanded audience, sharing his work commercially through a licensing agent, selling thousands of images worldwide each year.
