Synopsis: El Romántico" tells the story of a father and daughter who find themselves drifting apart during the daughter's teenage years. As they struggle to connect and understand each other, they both feel the growing distance between them, as if they don't know this version of themselves. However, music becomes the unexpected bridge that brings them back together. 'El Romantico,' a new musical written by Julia Rosa Sosa with music from her dad, Olaf Sosa, and music producer Miguel Corral, made possible by the Assembly of the Arts Creative Impact Fund.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:
EL ROMANTICO (He/Him) 17 year old Must play guitar and sing, a hopeless dreamer and romantic that is looking for a better life. young version of Dad
JULIETA (She/Her) 17 year old, the fierce a high school student with great ambitions, young version of Mom
PAPA (He/Him) 40s-60s Must play guitar and sing, a hard working father that is struggling how to manage his life in this new stage of his life
MAMA (She/Her) 40s-60s Mom of Lily, the fierce leader of the household that is trying to push Lily and her dad closer
LILY (She/Her) 17 year old must sing, a shy teenager that has enroll in the local talent show in her new school
VICENTE 40s-60s A guarding angel to El Romantico, a carpenter
CONDUCTOR (can be played by a range of ages and genders) The show host
GUADALUPE (She/Her) 17 years, a high school student passionate about music
PASAJERO (can be played by a range of ages) A bus passenger
Some actors will be playing several characters
Descriptions of the characters are as they are identified in the script, however actors from all gender identities and expressions are encouraged to audition for the characters they would feel inclined to. Performers of all races, ethnicities, national origins, gender expressions, body types, and abilities are encouraged to audition.
Actors from all experience types are welcome to audition, the director will do her best to schedule rehearsals to accommodate folks with jobs, child care, and family commitments.
