Part-time Saxophone/Woodwind Instructor – Position Description

Broadway School of Music & the Arts is seeking a part-time independently contracted saxophone or woodwind instructor (sax, clarinet, flute) beginning as soon as possible to teach beginning through intermediate students, primarily children and teens, but including adult students as well.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have at minimum a B.M. in wind instrument performance, with preferably a Master’s degree in wind performance or music education.
  • Have 3-5 years prior experience teaching wind instruments to students of all ages; instructors who are able to teach clarinet, flute and saxophone through the intermediate level are preferred.
  • Be skilled at and passionate about nurturing the joy of music in young children.
  • Be able to engage each student at their level of ability, and encourage their growth, including preparation for recitals and outside community performances.
  • Be comfortable in an urban, community setting and with students from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Be available to teach at least one weekday afternoon/evening (Mon, Tues, or Thurs) for at least two hours during the window of 3:00-8:00 pm.
  • Be able to adapt to teach lessons online as needed due to COVID-19 pandemic guidelines.
  • Be able to commit to a weekly lesson schedule throughout our two 18-week sessions (Fall, Spring), and 6-week Summer session with minimum disruption to our students.
  • Be able to make at least a 1-year commitment to this position, preferably longer.
  • Be a contributor to BSMA’s small, individual and family-centered collegial instructional environment; show interest in collaborating with other BSMA instructors as opportunities arise.
  • Be willing to participate (on a paid basis) in BSMA open houses, faculty recitals or other activities through which we engage the community.

Salary

Please provide salary range, if applicable: $26-$30/hr., based on experience.
