Job Summary

The Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) seeks applicants for a full-time Vocal Coach.

The successful candidate will join a voice and opera faculty which is uniformly dedicated to instilling a healthful technique and cultivating compelling artistry in CIM's student singers. The CIM Voice Department has approximately 45 students in its degree (BM, MM, DMA) and diploma (PS, AD) programs, and its faculty includes four voice teachers, two full-time vocal coaches, a conductor, and a stage director. CIM Opera Theater mounts a full production each semester with the CIM Orchestra and a scenes program each April. Recent productions include Medea, Le nozze di Figaro, Cosi fan tutte, La clemenza di Tito, Ariadne auf Naxos, and Alcina. CIM is home to the Art Song Festival, which was founded in 1985 and presents many of the world's foremost singers and pianists in recitals and master classes.

Primary Duty: Coaching CIM's voice and piano students in the musical, linguistic, and interpretive aspects of art song and opera repertoire.

Additional duties, as determined by the candidate's interest and expertise, as well as by the needs of the institution:

Musical preparation of one of CIM Opera Theater's productions and/or scenes programs
Teaching repertoire (performance) classes for singers
Teaching repertoire (performance) classes for collaborative pianists
Teaching Song Literature (historical survey) classes
Teaching lyric diction classes (English, Italian, German, French, and other languages as applicable)

Education and Experience

Master of Music degree in piano performance or collaborative piano; or significant experience as an opera vocal coach and collaborative pianist.
Proficiency in Italian, German and French languages.
Fluency in Italian, German and/or French languages preferred.

Recordings (video or audio) of the candidate performing 25-30 minutes of opera and art song repertoire.

Deadline: Review of materials will begin on November 26, 2018, and will continue until the successful candidate is found.
