Visual Arts Instructors – Summer Camps

Part-time, hourly, non-exempt, reports to Assistant Director of Education

 Position Summary: Beck Center’s Visual Arts Education program seeks 2 dynamic teaching artists to lead children (ages 7-12) in visual art projects during our summer visual arts day camps. We seek a teacher for our Pottery & Sculpture class, and another for our Painting & Multimedia class. Camps are 14 days, Monday-Friday for 2 hours 15min daily. There is the possibility of extending this teaching opportunity into future semesters for weekly after school classes. Beck Visual Arts Faculty are also encouraged to submit their artwork in the annual Beck Faculty Exhibition each summer.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced artist with a proven ability to work with students of differing ages and abilities and has strong classroom management skills. Projects presented in this camp may include: painting, printmaking, mixed media, sculpture, and other projects according to the candidate’s expertise.

Available Course(s):

·         Camp - Visual Arts Session 1, 9:30am-11:45 AM (Ages 7-12)

o    Monday-Friday, June 13-30 (14 days)

·         Camp - Visual Arts Session 2, 12:15-2:30pm (Ages 7-12)

o    Monday-Friday, July 25-Aug 11 (14 days)

 Course Description:
Explore the world of visual arts! This year's theme is "Brave, Bold, Beyond." Learn about different mediums and techniques including painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, collage, and more. This camp is intensive in nature and divided into two classes per day. This is an in-person camp on the Beck campus, and will not have an online component. Friends and family members are invited to join us for the Campers' Art Exhibition on the last day of camp in the Main lobby.

Responsibilities:

·         Work with the Assistant Director of Education to design, implement, and oversee the course and its content.

·         Collaborate with the Visual Art Camp’s teachers to design a well-rounded camp experience that achieves curriculum goals.

·         Communicate with students and parents in a thorough and meaningful way as to encourage participation, growth, and understanding of the program.

·         Track attendance and enrollment throughout session.

·         Teach classes/lessons as schedule allows, and attend the final Campers’ Art Exhibition on the final day of camp.

Qualifications

·         A combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to an undergraduate degree in the art form.

·         Experience as a teacher in a school classroom and/or a community based program.

·         An articulate customer service oriented individual who works well with students, families, and colleagues.

·         Excellent organizational skills with ability to be prepared to lead consistent classes that are educational with developmentally and age appropriate content.

·         Hiring contingent upon passing a background check.

Pay Rate:

·         A competitive hourly rate will be discussed with each potential candidate
