Ideastream Public Media, a Cleveland-based multiple media organization and home to Ohio’s largest NPR, PBS and classical radio stations, continues to expand its trusted, in-depth, high-quality local news and information service to 22 counties in Northeast Ohio. As part of that expansion, Ideastream seeks an organized and motivated production professional to serve as Supervising Producer/Director. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Content Initiatives, the Supervising Producer/Director manages the team responsible for Ideastream Public Media’s multiple media productions. This position ensures that production deadlines and needs are met, directs and produces audio and video content, upholds the high-quality standards of the department, supervises part-time production personnel and manages relationships with production freelancers and organizational production partners.
This position will be responsible for the management of multiple media journalists, will coordinate all communications about production activities, recruit and manage freelance production staff and serve as a liaison to internal and external constituencies for the production team. The Supervising Producer/Director serves as backup for production activities as needed, including video editing, shooting, directing and production. In addition, you must know how to operate production and video equipment, will train staff to operate production and video equipment, and use audience and content user data to inform editorial and production decisions. An ideal candidate will have experience managing and directing video productions, from large to small scale.
Qualified candidates will be familiar with editing software, Adobe Suite including Adobe Premiere, Microsoft Office Suite, and have the ability to use social media to engage audiences. Candidates should have experience producing and directing for radio, digital, and video, and should be able to identify and develop authentic relationships and collaborations in diverse communities across the region. The candidate should also have strong verbal and written communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills, management experience and be able to travel to work sites as needed.
A Bachelor’s degree in journalism, video production, or a related field, five to seven years of broadcast journalism or video production experience working in multiple media platforms, and three to five years of supervisory experience is preferred, though an equivalent of experience in related fields and education will be considered. The salary range for this position begins at $65,000 and is commensurate with experience.
