The Cleveland Orchestra is looking for an exceptional fundraiser as our Senior Director of Development and Campaigns to provide critical leadership in the office of Philanthropy and Advancement. The Senior Director provides leadership and direction for all areas of direct fundraising including major gifts, corporate and government giving, foundation giving, planned giving, and annual giving.  This position contributes to the overall growth of private philanthropy and carries a reasonably sized prospect pool. She or he manages and mentors a team of fundraising professionals to achieve fundraising targets. The Senior Director also provides day-to-day management of the comprehensive fundraising campaign. This position is key to our mandate to increase the visibility, relevance, and impact of TCO’s programs, create value for the community, and transform lives through music.

The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in major individual gift fundraising and proven success in cultivating and soliciting prospects capable of gifts at the $100K+ level.
  • Experience fundraising within a large capital campaign and in a sophisticated and complex environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse areas.
  • Broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising with the ability to successfully participate in all aspects of the gift cycle.
  • Superior interpersonal and communications skills with a diverse group of constituents, both internal and external to the institution.
  • Demonstrated independent, mature judgment.
  • Ability to be discreet and maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to consistently maintain a professional image and demeanor.
  • Strong problem-solving skills combined with a collaborative approach.
  • Ability to successfully prioritize to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and able to learn and use various database and planning software.
  • Must be able to travel between locations (Severance Hall, Blossom Music Center, and Miami) and be able to travel to local or regional meetings.
