ABOUT RAINEY’S NEW "Communities" Saturday Arts Program
Beginning Saturdays in 2022, Rainey Institute will launch a new and exciting extension of its Saturday programming. “Communities” will feature dynamic Music, Dance, Drama, and Visual Arts classes for ages 2 yrs old - Adult, highlighting the powerful role that the arts play in creating and building communities around the world, and how artistic expression intersects with cultural traditions, societal constructs, cuisine, customs, and more!

“Communities” will be offered in two 8-week sessions (January 8th - February 26th & March 19th - May 21st -- there will be no programming on Saturday, April 16th). Each session will culminate with a free Community Celebration (March 5th & May 21st), featuring presentations, performances, and exhibitions of participants’ work.

Rainey is excited to continue enriching our community through this expanded exploration of creativity, diversity, and culture from communities across the globe!

To support this Program, Rainey is immediately seeking dynamic and passionate Teaching Artists to facilitate high-quality and culturally-rich arts education experiences from January 8 - February 26, 2022 & March 19 - May 21, 2022.

ABOUT THE TEACHING ARTIST OPPORTUNITY
Rainey Institute is immediately seeking applications and class proposals from Teaching Artists, for its “Communities” Saturday Arts Program -- SESSIONS 1 & 2. Artists in ALL disciplines are welcomed to apply, and ALL proposed classes should be anchored in some cultural or ethnic tradition, or designed to fundamentally integrate cultural or ethnic traditions into the curriculum.

Applications will be accepted and reviewed through Friday, November 26th, but interested artists are strongly encouraged to apply before this deadline.

The “Communities” Teaching Artist’s responsibilities include:

1. Completing an initial class proposal, submitting weekly lesson plans to Rainey arts program managers, and participating in periodic planning sessions to develop and ensure curriculum is age-appropriate, effective, and aligned with the overall goals and outcomes of Rainey’s Saturday Programming, including:
   -To facilitate artistic exploration.
   -To provide technical arts education.
   -To support social and emotional development
   -To cultural exposure, education, and curricular integration.
2. Designing classes and projects that allow participants to develop artistic skills, critical thinking, problem solving, communication, community-building and collaboration skills.
3. Instructing and facilitating classes in a manner that keeps participants engaged, focused, and productive throughout their duration.
4. Conducting participant assessments and evaluations (as deemed appropriate and necessary by program managers) to document growth and development throughout sessions.
5. Serving as a positive role model to participants and Teaching Artist Assistants (TAA), and providing meaningful opportunities for TAA’s to contribute to class delivery and instruction.
6. Planning and coordinating a culminating, end-of-session exhibit, presentation, or performance.

Class Groups:
Preschool (ages 2.5 - 5 yrs) | Elementary (K-2nd grade) | Youth 1/2 (3rd-5th/6th-8th) | Adult (ages 18+)

APPLICATION PROCESS:
Interested applicants should 1) Complete this “Communities Class Proposal Form” (which includes a request for an uploaded Resume/CV and Work Samples) -- and -- 2) Email Director of Arts Education, Brandon Lipford, at blipfor@raineyinstitute.org, to make a brief introduction and describe your interest in teaching at Rainey.

In order for Rainey to adequately evaluate any teaching artist for consideration, all requested materials must be received by the November 26th deadline. A Zoom or in-person interview, as well as professional references will also be requested of applicants of interest. Background checks are also required and must be completed prior to start date. After acceptance, teaching artists will meet with Rainey’s staff to discuss a class plan, determine logistic and budget needs, and begin preparation for classes to begin January 8th.

TEACHING ARTIST QUALIFICATIONS:
Rainey evaluates teaching artist applicants based on the following criteria:

• Experience and ability to teach youth, as well as work collaboratively with staff and fellow artists.
• Demonstrated work ethic and professionalism to serve as a mentor and role model.
• Experience teaching and/or working with diverse populations of youth and/or adults.
• Professional artistic training, background, and work demonstrated through work samples.
• Ability to organize, implement, and successfully facilitate a high-quality learning environment.

Ideal candidates will have a degree in Performing or Visual Arts, and/or a proven record of outstanding artistry and experience working with children from diverse ethnic, economic, and cultural backgrounds. Ideal candidates are also available Saturday mornings and/or afternoons.

COMPENSATION:
Rainey’s Teaching Artists are hired as part-time, temporary employees and are paid $35.00 per hour for the term of the position (including pre-program meetings and orientation).
