Principal Function

The Singing Angels seeks an enthusiastic and qualified teacher and musician for the part-time Performing Chorus Assistant Music Director. The Assistant Music Director assists the Music Director with directing and conducting rehearsals and vocal performances to inspire singers, entertain audiences, and motivate new singers and audiences to engage with The Singing Angels. The Assistant Music Director will also serve as the primary accompanist for the Performing Chorus and work with the student musicians to prepare them for performances. The Assistant Music Director may fill in as the Music Director for a rehearsal or concert when needed. Each rehearsal and performance should deepen and expand upon the skills and knowledge they may receive in a school music class. Full job description and qualifications are included as an attachment. Position

  • This is a part-time position.
  • The rate of pay is $67.50 per rehearsal or concert session.
  • If Assistant Music Director substitutes for Music Director at a concert, pay is $112.50.
  • Rehearsals are on the following days:
    • Saturdays, 12:30 – 3:30 pm (September – November; late January – May)
    • Sundays, 1:30 – 4 pm (October – November; March – May)
    • Tuesdays and Thursdays (7 – 9 pm) (September – October; late January – March)
  • The number of concerts range from 30 – 40 per year. Most of the concerts take place from November to December.
  • Various meetings are scheduled throughout the year based on availability.

Job Duties

The Assistant Music Director reports to the Music Director and is required to:

  • Work collaboratively and through a team-oriented approach with the Performing Chorus artistic staff to insure innovative, creative and educational programs.
  • Participate in the selection of the Performing Chorus repertoire.
  • Teach and run Performing Chorus sectional and full rehearsals when needed.
  • Accompany the Performing Chorus at rehearsals and concerts especially the two benefit concerts (November and May).
  • Assist with Performing Chorus solo auditions.
  • Participate Performing Chorus midterm and final evaluations.
  • Assist with selecting student musicians.
  • Supervise student musicians and ensure they are ready for concerts.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Piano accompanying capabilities.
  • Strong organization and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with youth grades 5 – 12 and adults.
  • This job is appropriate for energetic school choral directors who have experience with grades 5 – 12, but theatrical music directors are also encouraged to apply.
