Music Instructor – Early Childhood Drums

Part-time, hourly, non-exempt, reports to Assistant Director of Education

Position Summary: Beck Center’s Music Education program seeks a dynamic teaching artist to lead small weekly group classes in exciting drum and rhythm lessons. The ideal candidate is an experienced performer and educator with a proven ability to work with children. Classes are offered on-site at Beck Center and this position could start immediately, or on 6/16/2022.

Responsibilities:

Instruct students ages 4-9 in early childhood drumming classes. Classes to teach, with possibility of teaching privately in instrument area(s) of focus:

·         Drum Discovery Thu 4:30-5:00pm (Ages 4-6)

·         Drum Discovery Thu 5:15-6:00pm (Ages 6-9)

·         Course Description: A creative class introducing students to rhythm and applying what they learn on many types of drums, shakers, creating music with their body, and even household items like paint buckets. Students will develop listening skills, learn the building blocks of music, and teamwork as they work together as a class to create rhythmic music!

Instructors are expected to teach consistently during the academic year through weekly lessons/classes. Beck Center’s academic calendar includes: Fall (Sept-Dec), Winter/Spring (Jan-May), and Summer (June 13-August 19). Instructors provide a high standard of music instruction that meets the needs of each individual student, tracking their short-term and long-term goals toward sustained growth. Instructors communicate with students, parents, and staff to facilitate classes and foster student retention. Instructors are responsible for recording attendance accurately and promptly in the faculty time and attendance system.

Qualifications

We seek individuals working toward or having attained a Bachelor's degree in music performance, education, or music therapy, with experience teaching privately and/or in a classroom setting. Must be an articulate customer service oriented individual who communicates well with students, families, and colleagues. The candidate should have excellent organizational skills and be prepared to lead weekly classes that are educational with developmentally and age appropriate content. Hiring is contingent upon passing a background check.

Pay Rate:

A competitive hourly rate will be discussed with each potential candidate.
