RESIDENT TEACHING ARTIST – THEATER

Founded in 1953, Center for Arts-Inspired Learning (CAL) is Northeast Ohio’s leading arts education organization.  With a budget of $1.9 million, CAL provides more than 6,500 programs to youth each year in schools, libraries, and other community centers. Working with artists in music, dance, theater, visual and digital arts, CAL delivers programs that teach arts disciplines and are integrated into the core curriculum. CAL’s large-scale programs include 1) ArtWorks, an arts-based youth development program that hires 180 high school students each year to work in the arts while learning skills needed to graduate high school and attend college or attain future jobs and 2) teaching artist professional development.  In 2017, CAL moved to University Circle to open the Inspiration Center, a community center for the arts for neighborhood youth.

RESPONSIBILITIES

CAL is seeking a dynamic and innovative teaching artist with experience in theater and teaching youth to join our staff to facilitate school residencies, workshops, and professional development. The Resident Teaching Artist (RTA) works to ensure that CAL develops successful, effective, and creative arts integration and educational programs for a variety of learners throughout Northeast Ohio. RTAs research and develop programs that are innovative, of high artistic merit, and connected and integrated into core subject matter. As a teaching artist in the community representing CAL, RTAs partner with educators to use art to impact student learning and outcomes. RTAs gather data, document processes, and participate in professional development annually.

In addition to the duties listed above, CAL expects Resident Teaching Artists to work with the organization in creating a unique strategic vision. As a team, artists collaborate and develop innovative programming that delivers measurable impact, create new partnerships with schools and venues, improve existing partnerships through communication and transparency, research and participate in training sessions, and communicate regularly with administrative staff.
