Phone Gallery is designed to expose emerging artists to the Greater Cleveland community, and the Collinwood community to freely accessible art. Art has been on display 24/7 in a former pay phone box in the Waterloo Arts District since 2014.

Award: 2 months for a solo exhibition, open 24/7

Until Waterloo Art District's "Phone Gallery" was transformed in summer 2013 into Cleveland's smallest space for art display, it was a utility-less and phone-less pay phone box annexed to Russ' Auto Care. Now, Phone Gallery is a white boxed gallery that has shown over 70 local, emerging artists in nearly 10 years. Due to its position on a sidewalk in the busy arts district, the gallery is always "open" with artwork on view to anyone and everyone walking, biking or driving by (thanks to an electrical source, motion sensor and LED lights). It’s inherently public and highly visible location across from Praxis Fiber Workshop, Waterloo 7 Studios and next door to Article is accessible from I-90 at the E.156th stop west-bound and E.152nd east-bound. A monthly art walk (Walk All Over Waterloo) drives hundreds of people to art galleries throughout the district.
........

In Spring 2014, Phone Gallery held its inaugural exhibition sponsored by the Kresge Foundation and the local community development corporation as part of a grant to elevate underutilized spaces in the Collinwood neighborhood. In 2016 co-designer and curator Ali Lukacsy-Love was awarded an individual artist CPAC Creative Workforce Fellowship to make permanently accessible the miniscule space for art display.

Phone Gallery’s mission is to exhibit emerging visual artists in the Greater Cleveland area who may not have a portfolio of work to fill a "normal" sized gallery alongside established regional artists. Students of all ages are especially encouraged to apply. It is my personal joy to meet new-to-me artists through this project - apply today!
........

Phone Gallery is currently accepting applications in a continuously open, first-apply-first-selected call to exhibit in the box in a rotating 2-month long solo exhibition. There are no deadlines and applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. It is always FREE to apply and exhibit artwork.

Max display size: 11" w x 22" h x 6" d.

Visual 2-D and 3-D pieces are encouraged. An outlet internal to the box is available for those submissions requiring electricity.

APPLY USING THE FORM and email to Ali @ ali.alithearchitect@gmail.com

DISCLAIMER: Phone Gallery is not liable for theft or damage. The renovation of the box is designed to be tamper-proof and water-tight. We have not yet had any issues with artwork being compromised.
