Holden Forests & Gardens is comprised of two world-renowned public gardens; Holden Arboretum located in rural Kirtland, Ohio and Cleveland Botanical Garden located in the urban University Circle region of Cleveland, Ohio. This position’s primary location is at the Cleveland Botanical Garden, which includes 10-acres of themed gardens, two biomes representing the Spiny Desert of Madagascar and the Cloud Forest of Costa Rica, a store and café, event spaces, classrooms, and galleries.

The Exhibits & Experiences department seeks a team member to facilitate exceptional guest experiences through implementation of special events, exhibits and other projects. The successful team member will offer great customer service to guests during events throughout the year. Training will be provided. This position is supervised by the Director of Exhibits & Experiences.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Work with Director of Exhibits & Experiences to plan and implement events for Holden Forests & Gardens guests
  • Work with multiple departments within the organization to facilitate best in class guest experience events
  • Lead and/or support event setup, run-of-show, and break down
  • Conduct point of sale transactions as required
  • Coordinate event details including logistics, purchases, vendors, guest lists, event layout, signage, and volunteer needs
  • Actively welcome guests upon arrival to provide an orientation of the property
  • Provide clear and courteous customer service to encourage return visitation
  • Manage guest concerns, provide prompt follow-up and service recovery, and relay information to appropriate parties as needed
  • Ensure that adequate levels of supplies are maintained
  • Maintain the appearance, cleanliness and safety of workspaces and facilities
  • Provide occasional support for events at the Holden Arboretum campus in Kirtland, OH
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Prior event experience preferred
  • Proficiency in scheduling and organizing meetings, note taking, and proper email and phone communication etiquette
  • Working knowledge of of Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Additional computer skills including Acrobat and/or design software is desired
  • Experience with electronic point of sale transactions and cash handling
  • Must enjoy working with the general public, families and children
  • Ability to work within a team and be self-motivating when working individually
  • Ability to take initiative, multi-task, prioritize, and handle stressful situations
  • Must have a flexible schedule and be able to regularly work weekends, evenings and some holidays
  • Must be 21 years old or older
  • A valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record are required to be covered on Holden Forests & Garden’s vehicle insurance policy if using company vehicles
  • Must pass a criminal background check and substance screening
  • An interest in horticulture, education and/or promoting sustainable environmental practices to the public is desired
  • Must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Ability to understand basic instructions using the English language
  • Stand and/or sit for extended periods of time
  • Perform tasks in all weather conditions
  • Effective vision and hearing
  • Hand and arm dexterity
  • Walk and work on wet, uneven, slippery terrain
  • Kneel, bend, stoop, grab, and reach
  • Regular lifting and carrying of up to 30 pounds, occasionally 45 pounds
  • Ability to use common hand tools (hammer, screwdriver, hand saw, box cutter, pliers, paint brush/roller, etc.) and powered hand tools (electric drill, rotary tool, sander, etc.)
  • Work at elevated heights up to 12-feet using a stepladder
