Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) is hiring a Director of Audience Engagement & Marketing, which is a core part of CPT’s leadership team and will make a meaningful contribution to life at CPT and its success. CPT will be accepting applications for this position until the role is filled with a start date goal between 3/1/22 and 4/15/22.

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The Director of Audience Engagement & Marketing oversees CPT’s audience engagement, marketing, and promotional initiatives towards the goals of building audience, expanding the reach of CPT artistic and education programming regionally and nationwide, and deepening our relationship with audience members and community stakeholders. CPT is less interested in “ticket sales” than in gathering together the many communities of the Cleveland region. This position is a year-round, salaried staff position. Reporting to the Executive Artistic Director, the Director of Audience Engagement & Marketing is a key member of the senior management team and works closely with the General Manager, Education Director, Director of Organizational Advancement, Associate Artistic Director, and the Technical Director, as well as cross-departmentally.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

The position seeks a highly-motivated, experienced theatre arts administrator with superb written and verbal communication skills, experience working with diverse communities, and a passion for the arts. Adaptability, professionalism, grace-under-pressure, imagination, willingness to embrace and incorporate feedback, and fluency in MS Word, Excel, basic HTML, and various social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) required. Experience with database management software and photo/video/graphic editing software strongly preferred. Experience in arts administration is a must, with a minimum of 3 years of work in professional theatre or related creative professions, consistent freelance work, or equivalent. CPT primarily produces theatrical work that is outside-of-the-mainstream, so a history of such work may indicate a good fit.

CPT is seeking a storyteller with outstanding writing, editing, and communication skills. The position requires strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, a passion for the arts and the mission of CPT, and a desire to grow and learn new skills. The successful candidate will be curious, collaborative, imaginative, adaptable and flexible, and have experience working with a diverse range of constituents.

All positions at CPT work across departmental lines and the Director of Audience Engagement & Marketing is involved in nearly all aspects of the theatre. Job responsibilities may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Oversee all marketing and promotion of CPT season productions, education, and community programs.
  • Supervise two full time staff members in the creation and distribution of robust, content-rich materials for CPT’s patron emails, external communications, and digital and print marketing materials.
  • Collaborate with graphic designers in the creation of season artwork.
  • Manage printing and distribution of print marketing materials, including the annual Season Brochure and Season Program.
  • Manage and distribute print, photo, and video assets for marketing, promotional, and artistic purposes.
  • Cultivate media and publicity for CPT season shows, education and community programs.
  • Build and sustain long-term and collaborative relationships with community partners and individuals for CPT community events and season shows.
  • Create content and manage print, on air, and digital advertising.
  • Mange audience engagement initiatives, and other duties related to audience development, such as pre- and post-show activities, receptions, and special groups.
  • Represent CPT at opening weekends, community forums, and promotional events.
  • Nurture and develop relationships with artists and community partners.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to centering antiracist and anti-oppressive practices in their work.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Candidate must possess excellent logistics skills, creativity, a commitment to extraordinary patron experiences, plus a drive to produce measurable outcomes. Because of our track record of success, we are particularly interested in candidates who are eager to support current audience engagement initiatives and ultimately move into evolving new programs. CPT is home to Teatro Público de Cleveland and Masrah Cleveland Al-Arabi. Fluency in Spanish or Arabic would be a huge plus.

COMPENSATION

Starting pay for this position will be $45,000-55,000 and will be commensurate with experience and skill set. CPT offers a benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, short-term and long-term disability, vacation pay, and paid sick time/personal days.

CPT STAFF DESCRIPTION

CPT cares passionately about reflecting our community and pursuing diversity at all levels of the organization. CPT has a demanding work environment with long, intense hours, but we have fun and love what we do. We value hard work, and strive to center courage, humanity, integrity, representation, respect, and JOY, “challenging each other to do and be our collective best.” CPT is a deeply un-siloed organization and cross department work is a norm.
