Chief Technologist

Your expertise in Technology will provide a valuable service to your community. ideastream, Northeast Ohio’s Multiple Media, Public Broadcasting organization is seeking a Chief Technologist. 

Job Summary

The Chief Technologist is an entrepreneurial and innovative individual who generally oversees media and information technology, broadcast and digital distribution, engineering, facilities and infrastructure services.  More specifically, the Chief Technologist is responsible for the planning, management and overall supervision of the Engineering departments (TV and Radio), TV and Radio Operations, IT & Enterprise Systems, Media Engineering, Systems Engineering & Integration and Facility Management for ideastream.  The Technology department ensures the highest possible quality of broadcast and production of on air programs and service to external and internal customers.   This position has five direct reports: Director of Information Technology, Manager of Product Development, Broadcast Manager and Radio Broadcast Engineers.

Qualifications include:

Knowledge/Skills/experience

  • Minimum seven years’ management experience in Television and Radio Production and broadcast processes in a medium or large television market required with a strong understanding of the technology necessary to support a growing digital presence.
  • Proven ability to manage staff, prioritize objectives, maintain technical and RF facilities. Experience with both Radio and Television technology is necessary with a strong
  • Demonstrated emotional intelligence: empathy, trust, integrity and social sensitivity.
    Knowledge of FCC rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of analog and digital technology for broadcast and production.
  • Demonstrated skill and successful experience in organizational change and transition management, including creating efficiencies, and implementing new and emerging technologies, including new/revised work processes.
  • Demonstrated skills in human relations to handle and resolve management and collective bargaining unit issues.
  • Demonstrated innovation and creativity, calculated risk taking.
    Excellent written, oral communication and stand-up presentation skills a must.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a diverse team to support organizational goals, managing complex projects, large budgets, setting and accomplishing goals while managing dynamic priorities.
  • Creative and visionary thinker with the ability to translate ideas into action and understand and express the business impact of emerging technologies.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field

Essential Physical Demands and Working Environment:

Ability to see, communicate, hear and utilize electronic communication devices. Availability for 24/7 response to technical emergencies.
