CHIEF EXPERIENCE OFFICER

ideastream, Northeast Ohio’s innovative multiple media organization, has an exciting opportunity for a Chief Experience Officer (CXO). Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this is an Executive Management level position for an individual who has experience with workforce development and managing and executing organizational strategic priorities.  This position is directly responsible for establishing goals and implementing strategies to achieve a healthy, productive and successful workplace culture that ultimately improves ideastream’s user experience across all platforms.

 

The CXO will, in partnership with the CEO and the Executive leadership, set the management tone with the primary responsibility for the performance and accountability of the organization’s workforce development as well as user satisfaction, ensuring that all managers have all the necessary skills to do their functions at the highest level of professional competence at all times, by supporting and providing professional development for ideastream’s workforce on an ongoing basis. This individual must stay current with all relevant strategic industry and competitive information as it applies to the overall job responsibilities.

The person in this position shall support the vision, mission and strategic plan of ideastream, and will be a critical lead in defining organization goals to align departments effectively, act as a liaison between employees and other C-level executives, and establishes an emotional connection between employees, executives, and the organization as a whole.  Specifically, this position will manage ideastream’s Human Resources and Digital Experience Team.

Communication. The CXO must strongly influence culture through the signals they send, the questions they ask, the feedback they give, and the kinds of messages they impart with their words and actions.

Alignment. The CXO will help employees understand how what they do is important to the strategic direction of ideastream.

Goals. Through vivid illustrations and models, the CXO will validate which actions ideastream considers exemplary, which behaviors are recognized and which outcomes receive approval.

Recognition. The CXO must maintain culture by honoring employees who share ideastream’s values, mission and vision.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Design, implement and monitor business strategic plans to achieve organization-wide annual objectives
  • Align all aspects of ideastream’s workplace policies, procedures and practices toward the short and long-term strategic priorities and goals
  • Develop and implement strategies for building organizational and staff capabilities and capacities for digital content creation, engagement, distribution and data-driven decision-making
  • Craft talent acquisition strategies to build strong pipelines for future hiring needs
  • Stay current on developing digital trends and best practices and distributes relevant information to management leadership and staff
  • Set comprehensive goals to measure, evaluate and communicate cultural change
  • Engage in strategic planning initiatives with ideastream’s executive management and Board of Trustees, providing leadership for strategic planning and task forces as assigned by the President & CEO
  • Recruit, develop and retain highly engaged employees in an accountable yet collaborative environment
  • Establish and disseminate digital best practices, guidelines and policies
  • Represent the organization with various clients and at local and national conferences and events.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resource modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of client satisfaction.
  • Proven track-record of team building and working across divisions to achieve goals and the highest level of performance.
  • Operations knowledge, analytic abilities and problem solving skills
  • Ability and willingness to delegate effectively and to hold direct reports accountable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity towards working in a culturally diverse community.
  • Stellar written and verbal communications skills with experience and comfort interacting extensively with senior management, clients and community leaders
  • Ten, plus years of successful organizational leadership, public radio, or public television experience and a Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Operating budget responsibility and demonstrated business acumen are required.
  • Must have the ability to attract and retain top flight talent, inspire and build teams.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies is essential.
  • High energy, collaborative, roll-up-your-sleeves leader with a high level of business integrity and ethics.

Essential Physical Demands and Working Environment:

Ability to see, communicate, hear and utilize electronic communication devices. While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to communicate effectively with others, sit and stand for extended periods of time. Use hands to manipulate a keyboard, telephone, paper, files and other equipment and objects.
